Due to the current ramshackle state of comedy in Ghana and the rate at which its buffs have been complaining, we took upon ourselves to do a review of the issue with some stakeholders in the Ghanaian comedy fraternity to know what should be done for the Ghanaian comedy industry to gain its foot and the mass appeal it deserves.
In one interview, we dialogued with one of Ghana’s acme radio presenters, Abeiku Santana of OK fm. He revealed to us that Funny Face is trying but for David Oscar; we should just take him out of the competition of top comedians in Ghana. “David Oscar shouldn’t be added to the top list” – He stated in the previous interview we posted on this website.
That previous post has caught David Oscar’s attention for his rebuttal. David is angry at GhanaSuperStars.Com; haranguing furiously that we have not been fair to him and that we could have at least called him for his side of the story. We respectfully got in touch with him so he can also clear his name. In a phone chat, David said there has been another publication in Flex Newspaper and other media houses referring to him as a “comedy nonstarter” but he always remain silent because he assume those critics are ignoramus and might not know much about comedy.
‘I don’t expect everyone to love me, but rather if am to speak on Abeiku’s comments about me, I will say that he criticized me immaturely because we have different kinds of comedy and the type of comedy Abeiku might like, might not be what his fans might want. Every professional comedy critic will criticize a comedian maturely but not just go by saying I should be shown the exit. Can Abeiku name top five comedians in Ghana if he claims I should be shown the exit?” – David Oscar lamented.
He continued that knowing Abeiku right from koforidua; he has lots of respects for him. He doesn’t think the media is the best place to verbally wrestle him but rather he Abeiku should continue expressing his opinions ignorantly. “If I should criticize his works, am sure he will not only be shown the exit but be sacked forever. All I will say is that he should keep expressing his opinions immaturely. At the right time, Ghana will know which comedian is better or best” – David concluded.
To David Oscar, comedy is not the only thing he does, he is also a radio presenter on X fm. He’s currently in Shirley Frimpong Manson’s TV series; “Peep” and also organizes his own comedy show named “Cooperate Comedy” series with comedians such as DKB, Michael Tagoe, Nii Tete, Legend on board, amongst others. What do you make of David’s rebuttal?
