Oh, look, it’s another rumor about Apple’s latest rendition of the iPhone.
Today’s source is Reuters, reporting the company plans on changing the connector port on the bottom of the device to make it smaller.
Citing “two sources familiar with the matter,” Reuters says the switch from a 30-pin connector to a 19-pin version will accommodate shifting the port for headphones to the bottom.
So why in the world should we care about the iPhone’s dock connector? Because all those cool accessories currently available such as speakers that use the current connector won’t be compatible.
However, an analyst with the tech firm IDC tells Reuters Apple will likely offer an adapter to allow buyers of the new phone to still use their accessories.
The rumor is among several on Apple’s highly anticipated device, expected to launch this fall. Most recently, TheWall Street Journal reported the next iPhone would feature a thinner screen that might make room for a bigger battery.
