One hard-line group, the Islamic Defenders even threatened violence and said they were willing to lose their own lives to stop it going ahead, which seems a bit drastic.
Because of this, the national police refused to grant a permit, fearing a massive headache when it came to security, understandably. The singer herself hasn’t really said an awful lot on the topic, choosing instead to just go about her normal business of dressing up strangely, changing her hair colour and trying not to break her ankles while walking on her stilt shoes.
This morning she Tweeted on the difficult subject and said if the 52,000 seat concert on June 3 does go ahead, it will just be her performing on her own.
“The Jakarta situation is 2-fold: Indonesian authorities demand I censor the show and religious extremist separately, are threatening violence,” the Mirror quoted her as tweeting.
“If the show does go on as scheduled, I will perform the BTWBall alone,” she had tweeted earlier.
Still, she’s prepared to suffer for her art it seems, even if it means a spell in the clink, because she has friends in high places.
“And don’t worry, if I get thrown in jail in Manila, Beyonce will just bail me out. Sold out night 2 in the Philippines. I love it here!” she added.
