The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Tain constituency in the Brong Ahafo region, Ofori Amanfo, has been arrested by the police for his alleged involvement in violence at a registration centre.
The candidate, who was nabbed with five other NPP activists, was picked up on Saturday and is yet to be formally charged. The Brong Ahafo regional chairman of the main opposition party, Asamoah Kyeremeh, has maintained the suspects are innocent.
He said Amanfo, the candidate, was not at the scene of the melee between supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the NPP), which led to the stabbing of one person.
