Criminologist insists Boateng Gyan’s tape should be investigated

CID Pressured To Arrest NDC'S Boakye GyanA criminologist, Theodor Akyena-Nyarko has expressed some reservations about claims by the National Security Co-ordinator, Col. Gbevlo Lartey that the leaked tape involving NDC’s Yaw Boateng Gyan is “nothing of value worth investigating”.

According to Mr Akyena-Nyarko, failure to “pay attention and investigate the matter doesn’t sent good signal about the people involved”.Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan, who is the National Organiser of the ruling party, was captured in a controversial leaked tape plotting to infiltrate the National Security with party loyalists among others.

But Col. Gbevlo Lartey told Joy News on Monday that “I have listened to the tape not less than five times… [and] has not found anything wrong with it.”

However, speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Tuesday, Mr Akyena-Nyarko told the programme host Bernard Saibu that the statement was “not in good taste”, adding that an attempt to infiltrate the national security is a “worrying” situation that cannot go uninvestigated.

Stressing that the tape needs to be investigated, contrary to position held by the National Security Co-ordinator, he said if care is not taken, certain unguarded actions could plunge the country into an unbearable situation.

He remarked that at the current state, where the nation is preparing to the polls, stakeholders ought to conduct themselves in a manner that would promote peace, as well as ensuring their followers conduct themselves in a way that would enhance the country’s electoral process.
