The Night of a Thousand Laughs is back and this time, the show will have six of Africa’s top comedians. On the line up are Eric Omondi, Nigeria’s Klint Da Drunk and Mandy Uzonitsha, Ugandan Patrick ‘Salvador’ Idringi, Ghanaian Funny Face and Zimbabwean Carl Ncube. The show is set for May and will hit two towns, Nairobi at the Bomas of Kenya and Kampala at a yet to be confirmed venue. Eric and Klint don’t need any introduction. They will be joined on stage by Mandy Uzonitsha who is the only female comedian set to perform at the event.
Mandy started her career on TV while she was still in university studying Political Science. Now she is ranked one of the top female stand-up comedians in her home country. Ghanaian Funny Face is set to receive the 2011 Ghana Movie Awards Founder’s Merit award. The popular TV comedian made his debut appearance at last year’s ceremony receiving an award for Best Actor TV Series, for his role in Chorkor Trotro. The show also picked an award for Best TV Series.
Ugandan comedian Salvador holds a bachelor’s degree in Telecom Engineering from Makerere University. The accomplished stand-up comedian took part in the M-Net Stand Up comedy contest in 2008. Ncube had a successful world tour last year that he said was part of a cultural exchange programme to sharpen his comic skills to meet international standards.
