Ema Boateng will always remember his Environmental Science class. The Cate High School soccer player was surprised by former American soccer star Alexi Lalas who came to Carpinteria to help celebrate Boateng as the
2011-12 Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year.
The school held a special assembly for Boateng who scored 32 goals this past year to lead the Rams to a CIF-Southern Section Division 7 Championship. Boateng is only the second boys soccer player to win this award as a non-senior.
Boateng, who grew up in Ghana without any running water, has a 3.75 GPA in the classroom and has already enough credits to be college ready. He will play for UCSB in the fall on an athletic scholarship. Past winners include Alexi Lalas and Claudio Reyna.
