THE shopper who was behind Adrian Bayford as he bought his winning ticket joked last night: “I feel like Britain’s unluckiest man.”
Jobless painter and decorator Jason O’Reilly, 43, revealed he was the mystery man pictured on the front of The Sun yesterday in a CCTV image from the shop. He was seen behind Adrian, 41, as he bought the life-changing £2 Lucky Dip at the Premier store in Haverhill.
Jason said: “I must have been behind Adrian for a second or so before I went to the drinks shelf and picked up some cider. Then I went back to the counter and paid for it.
“I didn’t buy a ticket. Now I can’t help wondering what might have happened if I had. It could have been me. I feel like Britain’s unluckiest man.”
But Jason said he is delighted for Adrian.
He said: “I’ve been in his shop a few times to look at his vinyl records.
“You couldn’t wish the prize on a nicer bloke. He’s a happy-go-lucky chap who works really hard.”
