Cairo – Unknown gunmenon Friday killed a Libyan military official in the city of Benghazi in eastern Libya, the independent Libyan news agency Solidarity Press reported. Colonel Mohammed Hadia, in charge of armament affairs for the Libyan army in Benghazi, was assassinated as he was leaving a mosque, the agency added, citing local sources.
The assailants fled the scene, according to the report. Libya has seen several acts of violence, mainly in the eastern region, since an armed revolt toppled Muammar Gaddafi last year. The transitional government is struggling to take control of the northern African country where proliferation of arms is posing a security threat.
