Losing to win may be a viable strategy on the “Biggest Loser,” but in the Olympics, it gets you disqualifed. Eight female badminton doubles players were tossed from the games Wednesday after Badminton World Federation officials said they were intentionally trying to lose matches to receive easier opponents in future rounds.
The organization accused two teams from South Korea and one each from China and Indonesia for “not using one’s best efforts to win a match” in the Tuesday night events. The teams claim the round-robin format of the game is to blame, since losing a game could be an advantage in future rounds. A little birdie tells us the Indonesian and South Korean teams plan to appeal. [Source]
