Paapa has finally released the self-produced album ‘Songs for Kukua’ which will certainly go down in our books as one of the best Ghanaian music albums of our time. The album was released digitally on his website www.paapamusic.com, and will continue to be available solely online until details about physical versions are provided later. The Skillions Records’ artist has put out a well-crafted body of songs that competently tackles topics ranging from patriotism and the brain drain, to pride, wealth, love and faith.
The 15-track album boasts two heavyweight features – ace hip-hop artist Jayso and prime gospel singer Cwesi Oteng – and tells a complex story of two main characters, Kwaku & Kukua, who we believe represent Paapa and Ghana respectively. With its varying musical textures, instrumentation and lyrical themes, the album displays Paapa’s high level of artistry and pushes musical and lyrical boundaries – a trademark of Skillions Records. This is a classic album for alternative music fans, and will be on lips and hearts for a long time to come.
