In an era defined by unprecedented loss of species, it’s a rare treat to discover a new one. American scientists claim to have come across a new species of monkey that lives in the forests of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Interestingly, however, that’s not where they found their first Cercopithecus Lomamiensis, known locally as a Lesula.
They’d visited the village of Opala where they saw their specimen tied to a post. The daughter of the local school teacher, Georgette had adopted the little guy with its large, creepy, human-like eyes, after its mother was killed by a hunter.
