Beauty queens and bouffants are quintessential Texas traditions among both women and the gay men who love them. But according to an instructor at Taylor Career Center in Beaumount, TX, the school’s principal, Thomas Amons, shut down the Center’s cosmetology program to try to prevent gay men from enrolling.
Amons allegedly said he was less than thrilled to see “flamboyant gay guys” take classes at the cosmetology department, and because it’s illegal (and impossible) to ban individual students for being gay, Amons axed the program altogether. We’d say it’s enough to give Texas back to Mexico, but that wouldn’t be giving folks like Annise Parker, the openly gay mayor of Houston right up the road from Beaumont, enough credit. [Source]
