Rio Ferdinand Fuels Race Row After Ashley Cole ‘Choc Ice’ Tweet

Rio Ferdinand has fuelled the race row involving John Terry by supporting a tweet from another user, who branded Ashley Cole a “choc ice.”

The Manchester United defender was shocked to learn this week that his former England teammate, Terry, had been cleared of a verbal racist attack on his younger brother, Anton, after he was accused of calling him a “f**kin black c**t” on the pitch.

Chelsea defender, Cole, was called into court during the trial to testify in support of Terry, something which Rio didn’t agree with.

When a Twitter user wrote: “Looks like Ashley Cole’s going to be their choc ice. Then again he’s always been a sell out. Shame on him,” Rio replied: “I hear you fella! Choc ice is classic! hahahahahahha!!”

“Choc ice” is a term usually used to label a person black on the outside and white on the inside.

After receiving backlash from Twitter users over his support of the tweet, Rio wrote: “What I said yesterday is not a racist term. Its a type of slang/term used by many for someone who is being fake. So there.”

“And if I want to laugh at something someone tweets….I will! Hahahahaha! Now stop getting ya knickers in a twist!” he added.

Rio has since deleted the “choc ice” tweet.
