KOREAN SMARTPHONE MAKER Samsung has predicted that sales of its Galaxy S3 Android smartphone will hit 10 million by the end of July.

At a media event held by the firm in Korea on Monday, Samsung’s president of telecommunications JK Shin said he expects cumulative sales of Samsung’s flagship smartphone to explode as it rolls out across the world next month.

Whether Shin was referring to the number of handsets sold to customers or those shipped into sales channels remains unclear.

Regardless, orders for the phone since its launch in Europe on 29 May have already made it the most popular smartphone of 2012 in the UK as well as the most pre-ordered Android smartphone ever.

However, that might change when Samsung’s rival Apple launches its next smartphone update, the rumoured Iphone 5, tipped to be unveiled this Autumn.

Samsung’s Shin also said that the Galaxy S3 holds the fastest sales record in Samsung mobile’s history, and with the rollout of the 4.8in handset in the US next month, this is only going to escalate.
