Scientists say sharing status as much fun as sharing genitals

FACEBOOKResearchers have shed light on the onanistic compulsion to overshare on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. A team at Harvard’s Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience Lab has determined that, for the human brain, “self-disclosure” is as pleasurable as having sex or eating. All three activities provide a hit of dopamine, Mother Nature’s feel-good chemical. According to the study’s authors ”

… humans so willingly self-disclose because doing so represents an event with intrinsic value, in the same way as with primary rewards such as food and sex.”

So, now you can tell those ‘friends’ who update you hourly with how they’re feeling, how great their kids are, and post pictures of their meals, that they really are what you suspected all along — jerk-offs.
