Simon Cowell has revealed that Mariah Carey contacted him earlier this year offer her services as a judge on the new season on The X Factor, but despite her superstar status, he turned her down.
The TV mogul decided to revamp the judging panel on the US version of the talent show after just one season, after Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul failed to impress the audience. Before Simon decided to sign Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, he considered hiring Grammy award-winning diva Mariah, but decided against it.
“Mariah called me about X Factor and I met with her but my main concern was that she might have found it harder on The X Factor than on Idol,” Simon explained to In Touch Weekly.
“‘Idol’ is a more gentle show and Mariah is not someone who wants to say no to people.”
It seems it may have been the right decision as Mariah is now a judge on American Idol, who are coughing up $18 million for her salary.
Wonder what Simon would have paid her.
