Cape Town – A woman who fell to her death in a Cape Town quarry earlier this week was identified as Jeffreys Bay resident Dawnsy Mieny, the Cape Argus reported on Thursday. Mieny, 47, a designer for a surf clothing brand, had travelled to the city to attend the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert with her 21-year-old daughter.
The daughter, who was not identified, said they decided to cross rough ground above the quarry in Bo-Kaap on Tuesday night to get to the stadium. A man with a knife approached them and grabbed the mother’s handbag. The two got into a scuffle.
“I don’t know how it happened but she must have fallen down, or slipped and then she started rolling down the hill. I was running, and she was rolling down the hill in front of me,” the daughter told the newspaper.
“I tried to stop her but she was already over the edge of the big cliff.”
According to police, the man fled the scene with the handbag. The daughter was unharmed.
A murder case being investigated. No arrests had been made.
