I was watching television last week when i chanced on this ‘new’ reality show by name “The Model International” being shown on etv-Ghana. After watching for a few minutes,i couldn’t shake off the similarity between the show and “Americas Next Top Model”.
The show has aspiring models who perform a task every week and based on their performance, the bottom three are put up for eviction. Aside it’s similarity to Tyras show, the shows panel of judges has a personality very similar to Americas Next Top Model judge Miss J or Jay Manuel. He goes by the name Miss Fafa Glover, a runway and catwalk coach.
For those who do not know, Miss J is a runway and catwalk coach. He wears female clothes, put on makeup and wears his hair like a woman. This is the character that this Miss Fafa guy is portraying on The Model International. Is someone telling me that you need act like a woman to be in the modelling industry?? So the question is why this?????
After seeing the guy, i asked myself, must we go this far????? I am saying this because this is a country that’s battling with the issue of homosexuality, yet we’re parade on our television, characters who portray a different perception to our stance. For me, if you’re a guy and you carry yourself as a girl then you don’t appear to me as a guy any more. This guy speaks like a girl, walks like one and has his head in a wig. Is this the sort of character we want our children to emulate??? Is it normal for a man to dress and act like a woman?? This is just absurd.
We are sending the wrong signal and it must end. Is he on there just to complete the Tyra Bank “Americas Next Top Model” spin-off or what??? The producers of the show must look at this and rectify it before it gets any further.
