The search for Africa’s first super girl group came to an end with RnM
making way with the covetous title. Barely a year to their winning of
Vodafone Icons: Divas Edition, Denice Williams; a member of the group
whose contribution to RnM winning the competition cannot be over
emphasized confirmed the rumors of her exit from the group at the
launch of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards last Saturday the Golden
Tulip Hotel in Accra.
News of the second edition of the Vodafone Icon did make wave at the
beginning of the year, and this time, organizers of the music reality
show have dubbed it; The Mixed Edition. This offers both sexes the
opportunity to show the judges their singing prowess to convince
judges: Gena West, Miss Naa of Y FM and sound engineer ‘Appietus’. The
auditioning kicked off in Tamale on 20th January and ended in Accra at
the La Palm Hotel on 12th February.
At an official Press view of the entire auditioning process at the
Silverbird Cinema yeaterday morning, elegant and eloquent host of the
show: Benny Blanco said;”everything about the show has changed except
me and Gena West”. This season of the Vodafone Icon promises to be
better and more interesting than the former. One memorable event was
when a 54year old man turned up to audition in Takoradi.
All is set for the Mixed Edition of Vodafone Icon. Winners of the this
edition will walk away with 60,000 Ghana Cedis, a recording contract,
a performance on the same stage with an international act at the
Vodafone ‘020 Live’ Concert and of course a brand new car (type of
car…I can’t remember).
The train takes off this Sunday 26th February on TV3, Etv and GTV. Be
a part in the birth of new musical talents. You can vote by texting
the name of your favorite group to Vodafone short code 1738.
Vodafone…power to you!
