Besse CooperHere’s hoping Besse Cooper had a cake big enough for all her candles. Cooper, a former Georgia schoolteacher who is officially the world’s oldest living person, is now even older. She celebrated her 116th birthday Sunday. Though unable to attend the ribbon cutting for a bridge named in her honor, Cooper, only the eighth person in the world and fourth American to reach age 116, was spry enough to quip: “I’m glad I gave them a reason to name it.”
